BARSNAKE 101: WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
Got questions? We’ve got answers.
Whether you’re wondering if Barsnake fits your ride, how to install it, or why handlebar vibration sucks so much, this is the place to find out. See below for our most Frequently Asked Questions.
GENERAL FAQs
What is a Barsnake and how does it work?
Barsnake is a high-tech polymer insert that slides into your handlebars to absorb vibration before it reaches your hands. Without it, handlebars act like a tuning fork, amplifying engine and road vibrations. Barsnake kills the buzz, reducing numb hands, arm fatigue, and wrist pain—so you can ride smoother, longer.
Will Barsnake fit my bike?
Barsnake fits most motorcycles, dirt bikes, ATVs, and even jet skis—basically, anything with tubular handlebars. We offer three models designed to fit steel, Harley, and aluminum handlebars. Check your handlebar’s internal diameter to find the right fit:
✔ ST-1 → 7/8" steel handlebars (most standard bars)
✔ HD-3 → 1" Harley handlebars (check for internal dimples)
✔ AL-2 → Aluminum crossbrace handlebars
Can I use Barsnake in my Harley?
✔Yes, but check for handlebar dimples.
Since 1984, Harley started adding internal dimples for wire routing, which can make installation tricky.
If your bars have dimples, the HD-3 Barsnake might not fit unless you have drag bars or nearly flat bars.
What are the different Barsnake models?
We offer three Barsnake models to fit different handlebars:
✔ ST-1 → Fits most standard steel handlebars (7/8" outside diameter, 23/32" inside)
✔ HD-3 → Designed for Harley-Davidson handlebars (1" outside, 7/8" inside)
✔ AL-2 → Fits aluminum handlebars with a smaller internal diameter (9/16" inside)
All models are 40 inches long and can be trimmed to fit your setup.
INSTALL & USE FAQs
How do I install Barsnake?
Installing Barsnake is quick and easy:
1️⃣ Remove your handlebar grips.
2️⃣ Lubricate the Barsnake with soapy water or light grease.
3️⃣ Feed it through the handlebars using a wire or zip tie.
4️⃣ Trim the excess if needed.
5️⃣ Reinstall grips, bar ends, or mirrors.
That’s it! Barsnake is a one-time install that lasts the lifetime of your bars.
Can I install it myself, or do I need a shop?
You can 100% install it yourself - no special tools required! Just a little grease, patience, and a guiding wire will make it slide in smoothly. Most riders do it in under 10 minutes. If you’d rather have a shop handle it, any motorcycle tech can install it easily.
Can I install Barsnake if I have end weights, bar end mirrors, or hand guards?
Absolutely! Just adjust for fitment:
- Install the Barsnake as usual—there will be extra material sticking out of the bar ends.
- Measure how deep your end weights, mirrors, or hand guards fit into the bar. (Example: 2” deep)
- Stretch the Barsnake out one side by that measurement plus ¾” extra.
- Cut the Barsnake at that point—it will retract inside the handlebar, leaving space for your parts.
Repeat on the other side.
What if I have trouble installing it?
If you’re having trouble, try these pro tips:
✅ Heat it up → Let the Barsnake sit in the sun or warm water for a few minutes to make it more flexible.
✅ Use a guiding wire → Feed a thin wire or zip tie through first, attach it to the Barsnake, and pull it through.
✅ Lube it up → Light grease or soapy water helps it slide in smoothly.
